About the Role
We’re looking for a strategic, entrepreneurial, and analytical Director of Product to lead a team of product managers, owning product strategy and execution for Niche’s user side of our 2-sided marketplace platform, with a focus on growing user engagement through a personalized experience. Niche has gained significant traction with students and families looking for schools, capturing 1 in every 2 high school students as a registered user. We have an opportunity to deepen the engagement of those users and deepen Niche’s role as the connection point between students and schools. We have cross-functional teams in our Product Development Organization dedicated to driving user engagement by creating an experience that offers personal guidance, recommendations and a streamlined journey, putting the right information in front of the user at the right time. Your strategic mindset, human-centric focus, robust analytical skills, and effective leadership will guide the PMs leading these teams and their strategic plan to make Niche a uniquely relevant experience for every high school student. You will work closely alongside partners in engineering, design, product analytics, project management and report to the Chief Product Officer. You will partner with two other Directors of Product, forming a cohesive strategy that connects our user goals, client goals and company goals. You will develop a strong, collaborative partnership with key stakeholders, including Marketing and Sales leaders.

What You Will Do

During the 1st Month:

  • Meet with team members across the organization to learn about the overall company, mission and strategy
  • Spend time with leaders in the Product Development Organization (PDO) and gain an understanding of current team structures, dynamics, processes, and focus areas
  • Work with the Director of Product, Client to learn more about our market and clients
  • Spend time with the Product Managers and join PM team meetings to understand current product management tools, workflows and key metrics
  • Begin to build relationships with your direct reports and set expectations on frequency and format of 1:1s
  • Join biweekly Sprint Reviews and Design Reviews for the user-focused product teams to gain understanding of the active projects 
  • Meet with Sales and Marketing leaders and stakeholders to learn about their goals
  • Spend time reviewing and understanding our key business metrics and trends

Within 3 Months:

  • Have a full understanding of our user funnel, business strategy and how user engagement will drive our business goals
  • Develop deep understanding of the projects in flight for your direct reports
  • Develop a deep understanding of our mobile app experience and mobile opportunities, beginning to guide our strategy for our mobile app experience
  • Analyze key metrics and identify new metrics you’d want to monitor regularly

Within 6 Months:

  • Drive strategic priorities for 3 product teams focusing on user engagement (including our app-focused team)
  • Provide your team guidance and feedback to ensure they are focusing on the most important problems and approaching those problems in the best ways
  • Understand the market landscape and tools/products we may explore as integrations to help achieve our goals
  • Have a understanding of high school users’ current pain points, goals and how we can solve them
  • Identify and help implement process improvements for more efficient product development workflows as we scale
  • Establish effective working relationships with cross-functional peers and stakeholders

Within 12 months:

  • Seen as an influential leader of product strategy, culture and processes
  • Up-level the skills and capabilities of your direct reports
  • Use data-driven and user insights to inform overall user strategy
  • Connect product work to measurable impact on Niche’s user engagement and business goals

What We Are Looking For

  • 6+ years of product management experience in an agile environment 
  • Experience in ed tech and/or a digital marketplace preferred
  • Strong strategic mind, with ability to set direction for quarterly, annual and long-term goals
  • Motivating leader who has effectively managed and developed Product Managers
  • Experience with quantitative and qualitative analytics and research tools 
  • A track record of creating quality products that solve hard user problems and fuel business growth
