About the Role

We are looking for a motivated UI Engineer to support our Design team. You'll help designers prototype concepts, develop design tools, and help build and maintain a variety of websites auxiliary to our main product. As a "jack of all trades" you should relish working on diverse projects, and in a variety of languages, frameworks, and environments and have a bias towards experimentation and speed—a prototyping mentality. You'll be tasked to come up with innovative solutions to a variety of unique problems.

During the 1st Month:

  • Collaborate with various team members to learn about the company
  • Work with Design team members to learn about our libraries, tools, processes, and how your role fits within the team, the product development cycle, and Niche
  • Shadow Design team members to learn more about tasks you'll be responsible for, such as maintaining and improving internal tools, and creating new landing pages

Within 3 Months:

  • Assume responsibility for some Design-managed systems
  • Begin to audit existing Design code and start identifying targets for improvements
  • Collaborate with members of the Design team to implement a specialized landing page for an external Niche team

Within 6 Months:

  • You will have introductory-level knowledge of all Design-managed websites, tools, and processes
  • You will have deep knowledge of some Design-managed systems, and become the go-to resource for changes to those systems
  • You'll create new tools, scripts, or products to support Design team objectives
  • Responsible for some product team tasks;  You'll collaborate with front-end developers to improve Design handoff process

Within 12 months:

  • You will be able to confidently update or change any Design-managed system
  • You will be able to strategize and contribute to decision making on how to improve how the Design team works as well as independently create new tools and sites

What We Are Looking For

  • 3+ years in web development
  • 3-5 years of experience with HTML, CSS, Javascript and web technologies
  • Expert knowledge of HTML/JS
  • Expert knowledge of Javascript
  • Up-to-date on the bleeding edge of design and FE industry developments
  • Familiarity with Wordpress theme/plugin development
  • Preferred: Knowledge of React or other modern frameworks
  • Preferred: Some knowledge of MySQL and basic database management
  • Preferred: Familiarity with common Design tools: Photoshop, InDesign, After Effects, etc.
  • Communicates well with visual thinkers (designers)
  • Eye for design (although not necessarily a designer); sensitivity to detail
  • Excited to solve problems of all types, especially impossible ones
  • An independent thinker and able to manage your own time; can take a project goal and evaluate possible approaches to solving it
  • A natural born builder; loves to try new tools and work on a lot of different projects
