About the Role
We’re looking for a driven, resourceful, and systematic Sr. Quality Assurance Analyst to join our growing team! The focus of the role will be to test our code, data, and overall site security. You'll coordinate with developers, the data team, and the rest of the QA team to design and execute tests that root out bugs and keep our website safe from harm. As a Sr. Quality Assurance Analyst you'll also be responsible for the mentorship, development, and onboarding of entry-level hires. Additionally, we will need you to represent QA at cross-functional team meetings, create documentation, and ensure best practices are being maintained among teammates. 

Responsibilities

  • Take business requirements and turn them into robust, focused test plans
  • Execute test cases and record results with a high degree of accuracy
  • Review and provide constructive feedback on peer test plans
  • Assist onboarding of new, entry-level hires on the team
  • Trigger and coordinate deployments of code and data
  • Contribute code to automated test suites
  • Act as representative of QA as a stakeholder in cross-functional team meetings
  • Create and maintain procedural and functional documentation in the form of walkthroughs, test descriptions, and meeting notes
  • Conduct exploratory testing to uncover defects in features for web and mobile applications
  • Enforce adherence to best practices among teammates
  • Master at least one area of the Niche product or tech stack, serving as QA team subject matter expert in that arena
  • Suggest process improvements with regard to functional and regression testing
  • Periodically lead functional team meetings

What You Will Do

During the 1st Month:

  • Learn about Niche by meeting with various team members to learn more about our company through our Onboarding meetings
  • Collaborate with various team members to learn about how your role fits within the team, the tech department, and Niche
  • Shadow Quality Assurance team members to learn more about our tech stack, the products we support, and our development life cycle
  • Conduct exploratory testing to uncover defects on our site—in other words, try to break stuff
  • Join a focused product team and begin working within an Agile development framework
  • Participate in smoke testing of code changes slated for deployment

Within 3 Months:

  • Solidify understanding of our tech stack, developing a clear mental model of how its layers interact
  • Take business requirements and turn them into robust, focused test plans
  • Deploy tested releases to production
  • Grow as a contributing member of a product team, providing reasonable estimates for the testing effort required in various projects
  • Take initiative to give feedback on test plans developed by QA team members
  • Provide context and insights about product teamwork to your functional team

Within 6 Months:

  • Monitor available production quality metrics (e.g. error logs, triaging production issues)
  • Build up deep testing knowledge on product team's area of focus
  • Assist in training and mentoring newer hires
  • Suggest enhancements to Quality Assurance team standards and practices
  • Provide suggestions for what aspects of test plans should be converted into automated regression tests

Within 12 Months:

  • Serve as a subject matter expert for at least one major area of the product
  • Support and produce documentation to help the QA team elevate app testing practices
  • Suggest enhancements that would improve the user experience for our product
  • Research and provide insights into industry best practices with relation to Quality Assurance

What We Are Looking For

  • 3-5 years' experience in a software quality assurance analyst role
  • Intermediate knowledge of PostgreSQL
  • Ability to self-organize and accurately prioritize work based on available information
  • Highly tech-savvy, as demonstrated by independent projects and continuing education
  • Comfortable providing critical feedback while remaining supportive/constructive
  • Ability to foresee potential bugs that may arise based on design and implementation choices being made throughout the product
  • Excellent writing skills

Useful Experience

  • Experience mentoring fellow teammates
  • Prior experience as a tech lead on a product team
  • Advanced SQL experience
  • Previous position of responsibility in a professional setting
  • Knowledge of accessibility testing concerns
  • Familiarity with Node.js, Javascript, open-source test automation software
