About the Role
We’re looking for a driven, resourceful, and systematic Software Engineer in Test to join our growing team. The focus of the Software Engineer in Test will be to:

  • Support product teams by creating automated tests to be run as part of a continuous integration framework
  • Maintain and optimize a variety of test automation suites used in various phases of the SDLC
  • Maintain functioning of CI pipeline by fixing broken automated tests
  • Assist QA Director in planning/prioritization of QA automation projects
  • Participate in architectural discussions related to automated test suites
  • Assist in keeping automated test suite dependencies current
  • Evangelize the importance of quality improvement across all areas of the SDLC
  • Collaborate with QA Analysts and other functional teams to identify new automation opportunities
  • Enforce internal standards for automated test code by participating in code reviews
  • Review and provide constructive feedback on peer test plans
  • Advocate for building/adoption of tools that can enhance product development organization velocity
  • Support deployments of code and data, particularly aiming to ensure uninterrupted functioning of CI test automation
  • Conduct exploratory testing to uncover defects in features for web and mobile applications

What You Will Do

During the 1st Month:

  • Collaborate with various team members to learn how your role fits within the team, the tech department, and Niche
  • Shadow QA team members to learn more about our tech stack, the products we support, and our test standards and processes
  • Code, test, and ship fixes for automation bugs and tech debt
  • Attend onboarding sessions to better understand our internal processes and learn about the company

Within 3 Months:

  • Join the platform product team and begin working within an Agile development framework
  • Collaborate with other QA team members to break down and implement automated test coverage for new and existing platform features
  • Participate in code and test plan reviews and provide thoughtful, constructive feedback to other QA team members
  • Gain exposure to the platform’s underlying application stacks and deployment processes

Within 6 Months:

  • Work with members of the tech and product teams to distill user stories or business requirements into automated test coverage
  • Continue gaining exposure and familiarity with the various layers of our platform (data, back-end, front-end) and understand how automated testing serves each
  • Collaborate with QA analysts to identify gaps in automation coverage and develop a backlog aimed at reducing those gaps
  • Work with members of the tech and product teams to identify processes that can be automated in order to help others

Within 12 Months:

  • Confidently break ground on new avenues for automated testing and improve the patterns used in existing automation suites
  • Begin to independently identify areas for improvement in our automation frameworks and tooling, researching best practices, and making recommendations to the team on strategies to address them
  • Solidify understanding of the breadth of our platform, how its layers integrate, and how both Niche and its users derive value from the platform
  • Practice and help define what it means to be an SEIT at Niche

What We Are Looking For 

  • BS in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent professional experience
  • 2-4 years' experience in a software quality assurance analyst or engineering role
  • Basic fluency in at least one scripting language (eg Javascript, Python, etc)
  • At least 1 year of experience implementing test automation
  • Strong knowledge of test automation frameworks/tools such as Nightwatch/Appium/Postman
  • Intermediate knowledge of PostgreSQL
  • Experience with Docker containers
  • Experience with Continuous Integration systems (eg, Jenkins, Travis, etc)
  • Experience with AWS and/or Kubernetes
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, self-educate, and spread knowledge amongst colleagues
  • Ability to identify and rectify breakdowns in process, both on and off QA team
  • Ability to communicate technical/feasibility concerns to any relevant stakeholder with clarity
  • Excellent writing skills

  • Experience automating native mobile app tests
