About The Role

We are looking for a highly motivated, empathetic User Researcher to join our team. In this role, you'll have the opportunity to impact hundreds of thousands of Niche users navigating the complicated search for the right school or college. Leveraging mixed-method, and collaborative research practices, you will work closely with product management, UX design, and other key stakeholders across the organization to deeply understand the students and parents making decisions about where to attend school. From your research, you'll identify and communicate opportunities to the team to continuously improve the user experience on our platform.

What You Will Do

During the First Month:

  • Collaborate with various team members to learn about the company
  • Work with members of the Product Management, Design, and Research & Analytics teams to begin to understand our users and current product offerings and build relationships
  • Assess our current UX research practices and tools; begin to develop a strategic research plan, toolkit, and roadmap aligned to company priorities

Within 3 Months:

  • Take results from assessment of current practices and work with key internal stakeholders to build out the strategic direction and process for research moving forward
  • Apply research methods to inform product development decisions at various stages of the development cycle
  • Develop a formal research process that can be leveraged by stakeholders across the organization

Within 6 Months:

  • Own user research strategy for the user group; turn analysis and insights into actionable next steps
  • Work with senior stakeholders to help inform longer term strategic opportunities
  • Be a strong advocate for opportunities you are identifying across the organization
  • Own processes to efficiently maintain, scale, and optimize user research initiatives; work to build out resources that can be leveraged by the organization to better understand our users

Within 12 Months:

  • You will have deep knowledge our our user, their journey and how it aligns to company strategy; you will be seen as an internal expert on our users
  • Use data-driven and user insights to inform overall product and business strategy
  • Continue to develop a long term research strategy; expand the impact of user research at Niche as the platform and team continues to grow

What We Are Looking For

  • 5+ years experience designing and executing qualitative and quantitative research plans across methods in the consumer product space.
  • Well versed in a variety of research methods including surveys, user interviews, personas, usability studies, etc. 
  • Experience performing market research; able align user needs with business objectives
  • Self-directed; ability to translate vague requirements into prioritized problems to solve
  • Excellent communication skills; ability to flex different communications styles depending on the audience; can effectively tell the story and get to the heart of the matter
