About the Role
We’re looking for a strategic, entrepreneurial, and analytical Director of Product to lead a team of product managers, owning product strategy and execution for Niche’s client side of our 2-sided marketplace platform. Niche helps guide students and families through the school search process and connects interested searchers with schools and colleges (our clients!). We have a group of cross-functional teams in our Product Development Organization dedicated to the client experience. These teams are focused on creating best-in-class features, tools, and processes that connect our school partners with prospective students, providing our partners with a seamless experience and clear ROI. Your strategic mindset, human-centric focus, robust analytical skills, and effective leadership will guide solutions that are good for students, clients, and our business. You will work closely alongside partners in engineering, design, product analytics, project management and report to the Chief Product Officer. You will partner with our Director of Product on the User side, forming a cohesive strategy that connects our user goals and client goals. You will develop a strong, collaborative partnership with key stakeholders, including B2B marketing and Sales leaders.

What You Will Do

During the 1st Month:

  • Meet with team members across the organization to learn about the overall company, mission, and strategy
  • Spend time with leaders in the Product Development Organization (PDO) and gain an understanding of current team structures, dynamics, processes, and focus areas
  • Work with the Director of Product, User to learn more about our market, users, and current product priorities
  • Spend time with the Product Managers and join PM team meetings to understand current product management tools, workflows, and key metrics
  • Begin to build relationships with your direct reports and set expectations on frequency and format of 1:1s
  • Join biweekly Sprint Reviews and Design Reviews for the client product teams to gain an understanding of the active projects 
  • Meet with Sales and B2B leaders and stakeholders to learn the current state of the client experience, various client segments, and the market
  • Spend time reviewing and understanding our key business metrics and trends

Within 3 Months:

  • Have a full understanding of our client offerings, sales funnel, and current strategy around clients and sales growth
  • Shadow sales and renewal calls to learn our sales products and positioning, and hear the client perspective
  • Develop a deep understanding of the projects in flight for your direct reports, including the goals, approach, and upcoming milestones
  • Ensure your teams are progressing toward their quarterly goals
  • Analyze key metrics and identify new metrics you’d want to monitor regularly
  • Collaborate with partners and stakeholders to start to hone in on future goals and focus areas for the client teams

Within 6 Months:

  • Drive strategic priorities for the client product teams, aligning product focus areas to larger business growth strategy 
  • Identify and help implement process improvements for more efficient product development workflows as we scale
  • Provide your team guidance and feedback to ensure they are focusing on the most important problems and approaching those problems in the best ways
  • Have a deep understanding of our clients - their goals, expectations, challenges, workflows - and develop ideas for how Niche may help them and deliver more value
  • Establish effective working relationships with cross-functional peers and stakeholders

Within 12 months:

  • Seen as an influential leader of product strategy, culture, and processes
  • Up-level the skills and capabilities of your direct reports
  • Use data-driven and client insights to inform overall product and business strategy
  • Develop longer-term strategy; identifying how we will expand the client product offerings to solve real problems and drive growth for our business
  • Connect product work to measurable impact on client satisfaction (NPS) and engagement as well as Sales and retention goals

What We Are Looking For

  • 6+ years of product management experience in an agile environment 
  • Experience in EdTech and/or a digital marketplace preferred
  • Strong strategic mind, with the ability to set direction for quarterly, annual, and long-term goals
  • A motivating leader who has effectively managed and developed Product Managers
  • Experience with quantitative and qualitative analytics and research tools 
  • A track record of creating quality products that solve hard user problems and fuel business growth
